Golden Sky Stories: Twilight Tales

Created by Star Line Publishing

Golden Sky Stories: Twilight Tales (originally released in Japan as Mononoke Koyake) is the first Japanese supplement for Golden Sky Stories, and it adds the mononoke as a new set of character types for players and narrators alike. Each has a signature character, but they’re also easy to reskin to be any number of creatures. The rules for the kappa also let you play other aquatic creatures like mermaids, and where the signature visitor is an alien, your visitor could be a time traveler, a winter fairy, or even Santa Claus. The book will also feature an intro comic and scenarios to help you get started using mononoke in your stories.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Assorted Updates
over 5 years ago – Thu, Aug 23, 2018 at 12:01:29 AM

Things have slowed down a bit here as life has provided a series of interruptions keeping us from getting into more playtesting. With any luck we’ll get through all of that before too long, but if you happen to have tried out any of the material I’ve posted (especially the Sheep Henge and Magical Girl) and have feedback, it would certainly help us out! In the meantime I have a few updates for you.

Shipping Stuff

We received the remaining available tracking numbers and uploaded them to BackerKit. Barring weird holdups like customs issues, everyone should’ve gotten their packages by now. If you haven’t, get in touch with me (Kickstarter messages are best).

Meanwhile in Japan

The new version of GSS is coming out in Japan in early September, so the publisher has been releasing more details, including sharing the new cover art (which looks amazing), and the fact that it’ll actually have some new rules and weigh in at 164 pages. They’ve mentioned an “Amazing Wonder” rule where everyone can pool their Wonder and Feelings for something big, and an encounter table that you can use for more ad-libbed adventures.

As I mentioned before, we’re not in a position to do a whole new core book for a while yet, but we’re definitely going to talk to Kamiya and see what we can do in the way of bringing the new material to our English-speaking audience.

Under Some Diabolical Headgear

Lastly, I wanted to mention that Evil Hat is Kickstarting a new, expanded edition of my card game Channel A. It’s a party game where you pitch weird anime with titles made from words on cards, and it’s been tremendous fun to work on. Asmadi Games originally published it in 2013 with a Kickstarter that happened just a little before the original Golden Sky Stories Kickstarter, but it’s since gone out of print. It turned out that the Evil Hat folks are big fans of the game, and they picked it up for publication. It's going to have new cards added, and we have some expansions lined up as stretch goals!

Shipped!
over 5 years ago – Thu, Jul 26, 2018 at 05:34:25 PM

Shipping is done! Some backers have already let us know that they got their books!

As inevitably happens with this kind of thing, a few people have gotten their books in a damaged condition. If there’s a problem with yours, let us know and we’ll get it sorted out for you. I haven’t gotten the tracking numbers just yet, but I’ll be plugging them into BackerKit as soon as I do. Also, if for whatever reason you haven’t received any PDF download codes you were owed, let us know. As usual, Kickstarter messages are the best way to reach us.

For anyone who happens to be reading this who didn’t get it through the Kickstarter or BackerKit, Twilight Tales is now up for sale in PDF and POD on DriveThruRPG and in print and PDF from Indie Press Revolution, and the Deck of Dreams is also available in POD from DTRPG. Being on IPR means that local game stores can also order the books, and IPR is going to be taking some to Gen Con (Booth 2459) next month as well!

We’re still working on more of the original material, though Clay is pretty swamped right now. The artwork is nearly all done, and at this point we’re basically just waiting on playtesting, editing, and layout for the various pieces.

Continuing our tradition of leaving you with artwork when we can, here’s Kamapon’s art of Akiko, the signature magical girl character!

Monday!
almost 6 years ago – Fri, Jul 13, 2018 at 09:38:23 PM

Everything is now at the IPR warehouse, and fulfillment is will be starting on Monday! (So hopefully I won’t be pestering you all with quite so many updates from now on.) We need to send out around 500 packages, which would a lot for one person, but shouldn’t take too long for a warehouse with a staff. Thanks to BackerKit having that capability, I’ll be sending out tracking numbers when they’re ready. Since we have backers not only all across the US but all over the globe, it’ll probably take a while for everything to arrive, but please do feel free to contact us (we prefer messages via Kickstarter) to sort out any issues that might come up.

A quick note to any European backers who ordered a Deck of Dreams: just the other day, Europe implemented a 10% tariff on cards and card games printed in the U.S.

In the meantime, the translation and writing is done for all of the stretch goals, and a big chunk of it is off to Clay for layout. Right now I’m waiting on three pieces of art (the witch’s cat, magical girl, and raccoon henge), and we need to do some playtesting for the magical girl, sheep henge, and Raspberry Sky Stories.
